Selena Gomez speaks on The Good Fight’s kidney transplant joke
Despite the intentions of The Good Fight, they aren’t the first show related to Selena’s kidney transplant.
In November 2020, Saved by the Bell reboot received a backlash for its scenes in which students gossiped about who donated the kidney to the “rare” singer. There was also graffiti in the background that said “Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney”.
After coming under fire, Peacock, UTV, and the reboot executive producers apologized and removed the scenes from the series.
“We apologize,” it was said at the time. “It was never our intention to take Selena’s health lightly. We have contacted her team and will make a donation to her charity, the Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC.”
France Raisa, who donated one of her kidneys to Selena, spoke about the episode and revealed that several cast members and producers had made private apologies to her.
At the time, Selena did not publicly address the Saved By the Bell controversy.
