Dr. Deborah Birx claims somebody gave Trump “parallel” knowledge on the coronavirus pandemic

In a new interview with Face the Nation on CBS News, Birx, a longtime public health expert, talks to host Margaret Brennan about what really happened behind the scenes at the White House. It didn’t surprise anyone, it was pretty bad: few masks, no “full-time” team and the feeling that she was censored from appearing on national TV channels. Let’s dive into the details in the following interview and see if Birx has any regrets.

Let’s start with a not surprising, but still terrible point from the interview. Birx said there were people in the White House (as well as the American public in general) who “thought this was a joke,” which is terrifying but not a huge shock either. Also terrible: a person who is inappropriate for Birx allegedly created data and graphs for Trump to showcase that they had nothing to do with it.

“I saw the President show graphics that I never did,” Birx said. “I know someone – someone out there or someone in – created a parallel set of data and graphs that were shown to the president.” She added that she doesn’t know who is behind the graphics to this day. Similarly terrifying, and similarly unsurprising. Alternative facts! Parallel dates! … lies.

On a logistical level, Birx says she has “no team, no full-time team in the White House working on coronavirus” and only one “incredible” support person. In Birx’s words, she was actually the “only full-time person” person in the White House working on the coronavirus response. Just what the nation needs during a literal global pandemic. Thankfully, Birx said she was able to reach out to people at other agencies to help her as she had a long career in public health Has.

You may recall that, as Daily Kos reported at the time, we received reports of HHS trying to get Dr. Censor Fauci in relation to statements made during public media appearances. At one point, ABC News host Jon Karl said that while Fauci was ready to appear in his Sunday exhibit that day, the White House would not allow you to hear from the country’s leading expert on coronavirus. (Instead, Eric Trump appeared on that show ranting Antifa.)

What does this have to do with Birx? According to Birx, she has purposely felt prevented from appearing in national media for some time. By traveling around the country and meeting executives in person, she was able to spread the science-based information she wanted to make available to the public. Because there’s nothing like censoring your public health experts so that they’ll have to roam the country to help the country survive a pandemic.

COVID deniers in the White House? “There were people who definitely thought this was a joke,” admits former Trump Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx @margbrennan too.

“That was the place where people let me say what needed to be said about the pandemic, both privately with the governors and following the press to speak to the people of this state,” Birx said referring to time for face-to-face meetings with local and state executives. Birx also used her personal opportunities with governors to encourage her not to worry about Trump’s insistence on reopening the economy in the face of the pandemic.

Does Birx have any regrets? “I always have the feeling that I could have done more, been more open, maybe could have spoken more publicly,” explained Birx. “I didn’t know all of the consequences of all these problems.” She added that she “always” considered quitting her post.

Birx’s biggest mistake in leading the Trump #coronavirus Task Force?

“I always feel that I could have done more, been more open, maybe spoken more publicly. I didn’t know all the consequences of all these problems.”

“I had to ask myself every morning, ‘Is there something I think I can do to respond to this pandemic?’ And that’s what I asked myself every evening, ”said Birx.

Definitely worth reading the full interview on CBS News. And as always, it’s definitely worth wearing a face mask if possible, practicing social distancing, washing your hands, and doing your best to be as safe as possible.
