CONCACAF Gold Cup 2021 schedule: full dates, instances, TV channels to look at each sport in USA

The Gold Cup is the regional championship that crowns the best national team in North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF). The tournament takes place every two years and Mexico is the defending champion.

The 2021 edition will take place in the USA with 16 participating countries, including the special guest team and the reigning Asian champions Qatar. The 16 teams were divided into four groups; the first two in each group reach the quarter-finals. The knockout matches will be played until the final on August 1st.

A preliminary round took place from July 2nd to 6th, from which Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti and Guadeloupe moved into the group stage. Curacao was forced to withdraw the day before the tournament after an outbreak of positive COVID-19 tests. Guatemala, the highest ranking team eliminated in the preliminary round, took its place.

Gold Cup 2021: tournament format

The Gold Cup tournament is similar to other continental tournaments around the world, with a group stage followed by knockout rounds:

Group stage: The 16 national teams are divided into four groups. Each team plays three games in a round robin competition. The first two in each group reach the quarter-finals.

Knockout Rounds: The eight teams that advance out of the group stage will be paired in set quarterfinal matches based on their group result. A fixed number of quarter-finals and semi-finals with individual elimination allows two teams to compete in the finals on Sunday, August 1st in Las Vegas.
